Privacy statement
In short: Iepen Fryske Stavering checks your text on your own computer. Your text is never sent anywhere, the add-in collects no personal data, and it uses no cookies, analytics or tracking.
Who we are
Iepen Fryske Stavering is a free, open-source add-in for Microsoft Word, made by iappyx. Its source code is public on GitHub. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Fryske Akademy or Microsoft.
Your text
To check spelling, the add-in reads the text of your document inside Word. All checking happens in the add-in on your own device, using a word list that is loaded once when the add-in starts. Your text is never sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored by the add-in.
The add-in only changes your document when you ask it to:
- when you replace a word with a suggestion;
- when you mark text as Frisian. Word saves this language setting in the document, like any other formatting.
The squiggles under words are shown by Word itself at the add-in’s request.
What is stored on your device
The add-in keeps a few things in Word’s storage for add-ins on your own device, so they are still there next time:
- your personal word list: the words you add with Taheakje;
- two settings: whether to check automatically and whether to show squiggles in the text.
Words you ignore with Negearje are only remembered until you close the add-in panel. None of this leaves your device. You can remove it by clearing Word’s add-in cache.
Connections to other services
Like every Word add-in, Iepen Fryske Stavering is a small web page that Word loads over the internet. This involves two services:
- GitHub Pages hosts the add-in’s files and the word list. When Word or your browser loads them, GitHub receives the usual technical information of a web request, such as your IP address. GitHub logs visitor IP addresses for security purposes. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Microsoft provides the Office JavaScript library (
appsforoffice.microsoft.com) that every Word add-in uses to work with Word. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Only the add-in’s own files are requested. Your text and your word list are never part of these requests. We have no access to these services’ logs.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking. The add-in file you download is put together in your own browser. The same GitHub Pages hosting applies as described above.
Changes
If this statement changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date. Earlier versions can be found in the project’s history on GitHub.
